- PhD students are permitted to undertake up to 0.2 FTE clinical work to maintain their clinical skills, which will be paid for by the Programme.
*Funding for salaries is based on average NHS pay bands for different healthcare professionals, which Wellcome has used to fund this programme. We may be able to accommodate funding above the average pay bands, but this will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Applications for the next cohort of the Leicestershire Healthcare Inequalities Improvement Doctoral Training Programme (LHIIP) are now open.
What is the LHIIP?
This Wellcome Trust funded doctoral training programme is aimed at AHPs, nurses, midwives, GPs and doctors in training to become clinical academics. This fully funded, salary-matching opportunity offers a chance to be seconded from your substantive post to complete a 3-year PhD focussing on healthcare inequalities.

GW4 Clinical Academic Training Programme for Health Professionals (GW4-CAT HP) is dedicated to identifying and nurturing talent by delivering an outstanding mentored and supported research training experience to establish an academic career for clinical leaders of the future.
GW4 is a collaboration between University of Bath, University of Bristol, Cardiff University & University of Exeter
The standard duration of a GW4-CAT HP fellowship funding award is three years (or part-time equivalent) from the date of registration at your host institution.
The GW4-CAT HP PhD Programme was previously open only to medics, dentists and vets however, it is now open to ALL health professionals and vets registered in the UK or Republic of Ireland
The call for applications for a 2025 start will be open until 31 January 2024.
